I've tried this in the past and it has been fun for those who have participated, and fun for me to see the results, and hear the stories.
For right now, I'd like to get a feeling of interest in bringing this fly testing offer back. I have created a poll to gauge the interest. Be sure to check it out and cast your vote. Suggestions and ideas can be submitted by email or by comment to this blog.
Here's how it works:
I will make an offer (periodically) of a fly pattern that I want others to use. I will offer this to the first 4 to 6 people who respond to the offer. Those first responders will get 4 of the offered fly and they will fish with them and then send me an email of their experiences. In the past, I have done this free of any charge. I may consider a couple dollars from the participants to cover packaging and postage of the fly shipments.
Check out the poll and vote on whether this is something you would be interested in. Thanks!

You know I am more than willing! Your furled foam hoppers have been one of my hopper patterns of choice since I got them 2 summers ago. Looking forward to fishing the furled stones and the air stone this coming salmon fly season.
Robert, Anything to help out a fellow fisher. But I have a couple of very important questions first: 1) Is it a multiple choice or essay test? (I prefer essay, in case you're wondering.)
2) Will you cover the cost of a substitute for me while I'm testing, or do I have to use a sick day?
3) Do I get a stipend?
Thanks for the comments. Jabberwock, when I get some "free" time, I want to get you those pink-toned PMDs.
Scott, you get enough time off in the summer for fishing. Don't push your luck for more. Notice that you can send in your essay after fishing the patterns. Your essay will be graded on whether the fly was a "great" or "poor" performer. Fiction is gladly accepted.
What's a stipend? Heehee!
Missed the poll Robert, but I would love to participate. Since I'm mostly a small stream guy, I'll look for those kind of flies.
